    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection member which can prevent surely damage of a lens and an optical information recording medium even when the lens and the optical information recording medium are approached each other during recording and reproducing, and an optical pickup device. SOLUTION: The protection member 1 includes super high polymer quantity poly-ethylene porous membrane 2. Further, the protection member 1 may include an adhesive film 4 for fixing the protection member 1 to the prescribed position of the optical pickup device and a transmission suppressing film 3 arranged between the super high polymer quantity poly-ethylene porous membrane 2 and the adhesive film 4 and suppressing movement of an adhesive component of the adhesive film 4 to the super high polymer quantity poly-ethylene porous membrane 2 side. In the optical pickup device, this protection member 1 is arranged so as to project to the optical information recording medium side more than the lens converging light to the optical information recording medium.
